MBA receives hundreds of resumes
every week and our recruiters peruse every one of them. So it stands to reason that we
know a great deal about preparing resumes.
MBA offers resume preparation
assistance to all our employees and candidates. Generally, we ask you to send us your
resume before our meeting so we can begin to evaluate it to see if any changes are
recommended. We like to advise you on an individual basis, however we have listed below
some general guidelines.
Keep your resume to one page
if at all possible. An eight-page resume will not be read or received with jubilation.
Prepare a chronological
resume. Most hiring managers and HR reps are used to seeing and reading a chronological
resume.
Unless you are an artist or
musician stick to ivory colored paper and dont go wild with the fonts, make sure
your experience is what we see first and foremost.
Never send a resume without a
cover letter. The letter should be brief and should entail what position you are applying
for, and why you are qualified for that position.
Be sure your resume is
updated, as an incomplete, or incorrect resume will prevent you from receiving an
interview.
Have someone else proof your
resume. It is very difficult to be objective about your own abilities, experience and
resume.
Be sure to spell check your
resume.
In general, make sure your resume
is well written, concise and without any typos. Nothing can cause a prospective employer
to lose interest faster than a poorly executed resume.
